Mount Aso’s Nakadake eruption alert level has been lowered from 3 to 2
Regarding volcanic activity at Nakadake, Mount Aso: at 16:00 on Tuesday 1 September 2026, the Fukuoka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency lowered the eruption alert level from 3 (do not approach the volcano) to 2 (do not approach the crater).
Following this, access as far as Aso Sanjo Plaza reopened at 9:00 a.m. on 2 September.
Aso offers scenery that is hard to find anywhere else — one of the world’s great calderas, magnificent nature, and a volcano that is still active today.
We hope that guests visiting Meihodo will enjoy the rich nature of Aso and the scenery of each season.
